Editor’s Note December 2024

Another creative year comes to a close, and I’m thrilled to bring you an issue brimming with inspiration, tips, and stories that celebrate the art of rug hooking.

This December, we delve into the fascinating world of color with the first installment of “The Color Lab,” which explores the easy-to-master technique of crock-pot dyeing. Plus, Cynthia Norwood helps you navigate the tricky but essential task of selecting the perfect background for your rug design.

Also in this issue, we have a special treat for history buffs in our “Readers Gallery,” showcasing the extraordinary work of Mabelle Linnea Holmes, whose rugs tell the story of America’s past. And Deanne Fitzpatrick shows us how we can give back to our communities through rug hooking, with heartwarming examples of how our craft can raise awareness for meaningful causes.

Of course, the free patterns in this issue bring some holiday cheer: the “Tree-Trimming Snowman” is great for punch-needle hooking, and the “Hooked Angel Rug Hooking Doll” makes for a sweet holiday gift.

Wishing you a cozy, creative holiday season, filled with warm fibers and the joy of hooking!

Happy hooking,
