In fact, you’ll do most of the work upfront, getting the grid set just right, transferring the pattern, and keeping everything aligned with the weave of the fabric—that’s the key to making this project a success. When you get to the actual hooking, you can sit back and relax—that’s the fun part!
From a distance, you’ll be able to see the gentle overlapping of the rose petals with their delicate shading. Up close, you’ll see the secret to this technique: no diagonals! Everything is hooked in vertical and horizontal rows. With the right planning, you’ll alternate your hooking direction as you go to create extra texture interest.
Use #8 cuts to hook this tapestry in multiple shades to create depth and visual variety; and eight-value swatch will work best. When you get to the background, it’s straight lines all the way to make the background practically disappear so your Old World Rose can take center stage!
