From the Judges:
Very unusual piece. There is so much to look at and discover.
I experimented with the ideas of motion and flow through both color and form in creating Purple Haze. I like the areas where the elements reside outside the “expected” dimensions of the piece.
I chose to use wool for the base and the rolled-wool elements. Because I was rolling small strips of wool, I needed a material that was strong enough and would not gray. I had never rolled multicolored pieces of wool together. I was unsure how to secure the wool together or how to attach these elements to the base. I tried various approaches—stitching, gluing, etc.—but ultimately landed on hot glue. The rug is upholstered on a thin piece of wood.

After Kerri retired, she joined a small group of rug hookers in her community. There, she learned how to hook, use wool to “paint a picture,” and use color to create dimensions and shadows.
